Fire Department Chief Officers Stream

This stream is geared to communities with fire departments. Initially, each community conducts Home Safety, Fire Department, and Community Fire Safety Assessments to get a snapshot of current strengths and opportunities. These assessments help provide a clear picture of a community’s resources and needs, and also serve as a benchmark that you can measure performance against. You can conduct assessments each year and evaluate items such as: Did the changes that you made work? How much impact did they have?

Following assessments, fire department chief officers participate in foundational training in Policies and Guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety, and Critical Incident Stress Management. Our Program Delivery Specialist will work with you one-on-one to develop a training plan to meet your department’s needs.

Fire department training plans lay a clear road map for firefighter development. Firefighters in training programs provide the skills and knowledge necessary to properly maintain fire department assets and apparatus. Future deliveries will include a wider range of competency-based firefighter training consistent with standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

In parallel, community leadership participate in foundational training that supports them in understanding their role and responsibilities as it relates to fire and life safety. Community leadership and the fire department collaborate to develop fire and life safety goals that meet your community’s needs.

Your fire and life safety program can be led by the fire department, or by a community champion such as a school teacher, council member, enthusiastic youth leader, or elder. The possibilities are yours to decide. We offer three fire and life safety training programs, which build on each other to provide participants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to design and deliver a measurable fire and life safety education program specific to their community’s needs.

Your community will now have a solid fire and life safety program in place and your fire department’s equipment and apparatus will be ready to respond.

Community Leadership Stream

This stream is for all communities with or without fire departments. Much like the Fire Department Chief Officers Stream, each community conducts Home Safety, Fire Department (where applicable) and Community Fire Safety Assessments to get a snapshot of current strengths and opportunities.

Following assessments, community leadership participates in foundational training that provides them with an understanding of fire bylaws, effective governance for fire service administration, Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities, and emergency management fundamentals.

Completion of foundational training leads to increased collaboration and ensures there is a common understanding of responsibilities. Informed by a greater understanding, community leadership and the fire department collaborate to develop fire and life safety goals that meet your community’s needs.
