The Indigenous Fire Marshal Service (IFMS)

The National Indigenous Fire Safety Council (NIFSC) is made up of two distinct areas. The Indigenous Fire Marshal Service (IFMS), and the National Indigenous Fire Safety Research Centre (NIFSRC).

The IFMS is the program delivery arm of the NIFSC. As such, the IFMS will perform the following key functions:

  • Deliver fire safety programs
  • Develop new fire safety programs
  • Update existing programs based on feedback or periodic review
  • Identify priorities and requirements for a) new programs and b) delivery of existing programs, based on feedback from communities and from data

Program Delivery Specialists work with communities to deliver programs
in the most appropriate format for the program and the communities’ needs. Program Delivery Specialists can support the self-delivery of selected programs, support community fire departments and housing officers to deliver programs in their communities, and directly deliver programs in communities.
