Fire Department Management
Fire Department Management programs will provide support for fire chiefs and officers at the administrative level with creating policies, providing guidelines, planning and acquisitions of apparatus and equipment.
There are 11 Fire Department Management programs currently in development with the NIFSC.
401 Fire Department Assessment
The Fire Department Assessment is an assessment tool utilizing a standardized assessment tool. The assessment tool identifies the communities’ level of fire service and identifies opportunities to enhancement service delivery.

402 Fire Officer Training (2022/23)
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Training – accredited. Collaboration agreement with accredited training agency in progress.
403 Policy and Operational Guideline Support
The Policy and Operational Guideline Support service is a companion program to the training counterpart. The service is to assist Fire Departments with the development or revision of policies and standard operating guidelines to promote effective, efficient, and safe fire department operations. The program utilizes appropriate industry standards and requires community or regulatory compliance.

404 Policy and Operational Guideline Training
The Policy and Operational Guidelines training program is a companion program to its support counterpart. The training focuses on the purpose, development, implementation and evaluation of policies and operational guidelines for the fire service for fire department chief officers and administrators responsible for fire department operations.

405 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program Support
The Occupational Health and Safety Support service is a companion program to its training counterpart. The service assists fire departments in creating or enhancing occupational health and safety programs, policies and identify relevant regulatory compliance.
Delivery Resource – IFMS Delivery Specialist (OHS operational), Occupational Health & Safety Coordinators, HR Administrators with OHS experience.
406 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program Training
The Occupational Health and Safety Training program is a companion program to its support counterpart. The training is designed to assist participants in the development and management of fire department OH&S programs and maintaining compliance of relevant regulatory guidelines.
Delivery Resource – IFMS Delivery Specialist (OHS operational), Occupational Health & Safety Coordinators, HR Administrators with OHS experience.
407 Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Training - TBD
The Critical Incident Stress Management Training program will provide education and tools for participants for personal and department use. The program is focused on the awareness, identification and mitigation strategies to prevent or minimize the mental health impact to first responders.
408 Training Plans Support Service
The Training Plans Support program is designed to assist fire departments in the development of training plans. The program will provide templates and samples based on industry standard and accepted practices.

409 Capital Equipment/Apparatus Acquisition Support
This program is a support service to assist communities with determining apparatus and equipment requirements, develop request for proposals (RFP), review vendor RFP responses, development of acquisition contracts, procurement schedules, and final delivery verification. The program is based on industry standards, accepted practices and NIFSC Apparatus Acquisition & Life Cycle Research Report (2022).

410 Fire Service Equipment Acquisition Support
This program is a support service to assist communities with determining fire service equipment requirements, develop request for proposals (RFP), review vendor RFP responses, development of acquisition contracts, procurement schedules and final delivery verification including airport and interface equipment. The program is based on industry standards and accepted practices. It is delivered by IFMS.

411 Mutual and Automatic Aid Agreement Support
This program is a support service for fire departments developing or reviewing mutual or automatic aid agreements covering AHJ, inter-agency operations, incident command, communications, risk, regulatory compliance, and insurance.
